Meadow on Chagoopa Plateau, 1975. We made camp not far from here for the night before our climb of Mt. Kaweah. The mosquitos were very bad and we did not have a tent for protection. So we had to bundle up in our sleeping bags and wear hats with netting over our faces. It was a warm night and oh, how I wish I did not have to keep covered with my sleeping bag. I was hot and did not get much sleep that night. In the morning we made haste in breakfast preparations and left quickly for the climb of Mt. Kaweah, wanting to escape the hordes of mosquitos by climbing above timberline and away from the meadow areas. Ever since that day, we "fondly" remember the Chagoopa Plateau as "Mosquito Plateau."
