Mt. Darwin, view from Lamark Col, 8/27/79. Between the last photo and this one, we had to stop for a long rest because my knee was giving me problems (Jeff). There are a lot of large boulders in Darwin Canyon and jumping between them with a heavy pack on the back was just too much for my knee. I nursed my knee along for the rest of the day and we did not reach the trail head until after dark. This was the only day in the Sierras where I hiked any significant distance in the dark (using flashlights). But of course there was the return from the climb of Mt. Clarence King, which also necessitated some travel after dark, but we were not carrying our heavy packs then.
