Gerald, Mark and Jeff La Favre, on Mt. Kaweah summit (13,802'), 1975. This was my (Jeff) second peak climb in the Sierras (I don't count Mt. Whitney since we attained the summit by trail). I remember that the peak register had some very old entries, dating back to the 1920's if I recall properly. I remember that one of the first entries was by a noted Sierra mountaineer, but unfortunately, I can't remember who it was (possibly William Edward Colby - [first ascent was Sept. 1881 but register did not go that far back]). I do remember a sense of adventure fall over me, reading through the register, and realizing that few had stood upon the summit of this mountain. Mt. Kaweah is deep within the backcountry, which is probably one reason why it is not visited very often. It is not a challenge to climb, technically, although the long talus slopes do demand substantial physical effort. (note: the white areas on Jeff's right hand and foot are due to scratched areas on the slide -- some touch up of the area was done but it was not possible to make a complete restoration)
